This is my ode to running, which is a passion for me. For a long time I tried to write a song that expressed my love of running in a more nuanced way, I may finish those attempts at songs some day, in the end I just sat down and got literal about it.
The bridge is just me listing out the names of some of the runners who have made running extraordinary:
"Meb, Geb, Grete, Shalane, Paula, Deena, Prefontaine, Amby Burfoot, Zatopek, Mootai, Bekelee, Bolt, Joorek, Dibaba, Bikila, Goucher, Krar, Bannister, Shorter, Salazar, El Guerrouj, Endereba, KiprotIch, Coe, Lagat, Lewis, Moses, Owens, Flo, Mo"
This is my love song about running, I was going to call it "Sidewalk Dancer" because that is what I think runners are. For a long time I only ever ran while listening to music. I thought I could not run without music, because running was my rhythmic musical motion, but once I started listening to my own body, I found that running itself is musical. Ever since I started writing songs and creating my own rhythms I stopped listening to music while I run.
For me, to run is primal, it is free, it is hard and easy, it is communion with space and time, with the breath and air, and with the earth and my body.
Despite and maybe because of all the challenges it gives me, running always makes my life happier.
Running releases endorphins that improve my mood. On a daily basis, running is a powerful drug that treats anxiety and depression.
Running has been shown as effective as any prescription medication for mental health. Peer-reviewed studies demonstrated that once depressed people try running, they rate it as the best treatment on the basis of perceived effectiveness to perceived burden.
I probably owe my life to running, so it is only fitting that I should have written this song to express my love and gratitude to running for all it has given me.
lyrics
RUN WILD - from "Truth and Fun" by Eight Two
Cool kicks on and
Worries fading
Neurogenesis
Costs jack shit
Win when you begin
In dayglo
Go with your flow
Hall ass kicking
Racing stops my mind racing stops my mind racing
Stops my mind
By the dawn's
Early light
Peter Ciacia
Does his thing
Run run into the wild
Run run just like a child
Run run run run run run run
Run run like I can fly
Run run without a why
Run run run run run run run
Go so far
Out i'm in
Time with space
Out of brain
Sane pain maker
Chasing wind
Sidewalk dancer
To, no end
Run run run
Run run
Run run run
Run run
Run run just like a child
Run run run run wild
Run run run run run run run
Run run like I can fly
Run run without a why
Run run run run run run run
Run run into the wild
Run run just like a child
Run run run run run run run
Run run like I can fly
Run run without a why
Run run run run run run run
Run run into the wild
Run run just like a child
Run run run run run run run
Run run like I can fly
Run run without a why
Run run run run run run run
